Brian Joseph Urban currently concentrates his practice in various aspects of plaintiff personal injury, workers compensation, social security disability appeals, ERISA/disability appeals, zoning and land use matters, gas leasing for Marcellus shale in Bradford, Lycoming, and Columbia counties, business law, commercial litigation, intellectual property law, unfair trade practices and consumer protection violations, trust and estate law (including drafting wills and probating wills) as well as other areas of general civil litigation.

Brian Urban's focus on personal injury matters includes car accidents of seriously injured drivers and passengers, truck and tractor-trailer accidents, motorcycle accidents, pedestrian and car accidents, bicycle and car accidents, and similar catastrophic collisions in Schuylkill County, Columbia County, Northumberland County and surrounding areas on local roads as well as major highways such as Route 81, Route 61, Route 54, Route 309, and Route 80.

Some of these cases include wrongful death and survival actions of fatally injured drivers or passengers as well as crippling injuries and traumatic brain injuries (TBI) or head trauma. Some of the car accidents involved drunk drivers (Driving Under Influence - DUI), speeding, and other traffic violations.

Brian handles uninsured motorist coverage (UM) and underinsured motorist coverage (UIM) cases as well as bad faith cases against insurance companies. Brian also handles construction accidents as well as slip and fall (premise liability) cases involving serious injuries such as fractures, herniated or bulging spinal vertebrae discs, dislocated joints, strains, sprains, scarring and disfigurement. Brian is often consulted on defective or recalled medical device and implant cases and other unsafe consumer product cases.

Dedicated to Success

Brian Urban's handling of zoning and land use matters include wind farm oppositions such as one of the only successful, reported cases in the Commonwealth which upheld revocation of a zoning permit for an industrial (utility-scale) wind farm. Brian has also handled trademark, copyright, unfair competition, anti-counterfeiting, and licensing issues in aspects of both litigation and transactional intellectual property work (such as filing applications, searching marks, enforcing IP rights, drafting agreements, etc.) as well as prosecuting and defending patent infringement actions.

Brian joined his family's law practice full-time in 2007 after working for over a decade in Philadelphia law firms. Prior to returning to Schuylkill County full-time, Brian was a member of the law firm of Cozen O’Connor in Philadelphia, and before that an associate with the law firm of Woodcock Washburn. Brian has also worked at several civil defense and plaintiff firms in Philadelphia.

Brian is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, as well as before the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Middle Districts of Pennsylvania, the District of Jersey, and also before the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Throughout his career, Brian has handled matters in the state courts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey, as well as federal courts across the U.S.

Brian received his Bachelor of Science degree summa cum laude in finance from Lehigh University School of Business and Economics in 1993. In 1996 and 1998, he earned his law degree cum laude from Temple University School of Law, and his LL.M. in Trial Advocacy, respectively.

Brian devotes substantial hours to pro bono legal representation, and sits on the board of directors of America Responds with Love, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, and the Schuylkill YMCA Organization. He is also four-time recipient of the Pennsylvania Rising Star Super Lawyer award by Law & Politics, nominated to the Commonwealth’s top up-and-coming attorneys under the age of 40. Brian resides in Butler Township with his wife and three children.
